Campground bathrooms were average on cleanliness but I will say there were 5 showers on our loop with plenty of warm water so we were thankful. The hubs liked the level campsite.
If your kids love night crab hunting they won't be disappointed. We had never seen this many large crabs on the beach. Next trip we're bringing all our bikes. Plenty of spots for family bike riding. And one more thing, don't miss the end of the island where you'll find the history of Fort Pickens and the museum and bookstore. Our fam gives Fort Pickens 5 stars for beach atmosphere alone!
Great place. Saw a water moccasin, ground rattler, and eastern diamondback rattler. Had armadillos and possums roaming around at night. Nice bathrooms and showers
I wish we could live here. This campground is so cool! We've been able to get a spot almost every time we've been to Pensacola. The drive to the park is so amazing. I just cannot even explain how awesome the views and scenery are. The fort is a really cool place to explore and the beaches, oh my gosh. No words. There are trails to both the bay side and the coastal side from the park. We've been lucky to be in spots that easily hold our 42 foot RV.
We love this Park, it has excellent campgrounds, clean bathrooms and showers, friendly staff. Beautiful white beaches, both on the gulf and the bay side. The fort is incredible. Nice little gift shop for souvenirs. Great place for hunting for shells. We stay here weeks a time multiple times a year. Definitely recommend a visit here, you won't be disappointed.
Fort Pickens Campground was such a wonderful experience! It is beautiful with lots of trees for shade. The campsites have a picnic table, water and electric right on site, and a fire pit. Good shower and bathrooms for a camping facility. The island is away from the hustle of beach drinking and crazy people so that was nice, felt like you had your own private beach. You have to explore the Fort Pickens battleground. So much cool forts to explore and lots of history there! I spent half a day exploring that area! The sand was so so soft and clean! The wildlife is amazing! Saw crabs, sting rays, birds of all sorts, a armadillo, and fox! It was awesome. You do need to keep all food up in a cooler or something because at night you do hear critters searching for food. Heard a critter sniffing right on the tent! It was an amazing experience!
We visited Fort Pickens our first time Labor Day 2017. We have traveled all over the US camping and our kids said this was their favorite trip ever. The campground is on an 8 mile strip of Santa Rosa Island. Although you are only about 15 minutes from Pensacola we had the feeling of being on our own island off the beaten tourist path. We stayed in campsite E9, which happened to be one of the only ones flooded but we still wouldn't complain. We felt blessed to get to be on this island for $21 a night and this close to the beach. There was a path across the street that led to the bay but we enjoyed driving across the street to the beach. Great beach access with pavilions for lunch, bathrooms and a lifeguard on duty.
